A Samsung smartphone’s display can be damaged by a fall, impact, excessive pressure, or deformation of the case. However, a crack in the glass isn’t the only sign of a malfunction. The screen may stop displaying images, or it may show lines, spots, flickering, or have issues responding to touch.
The Ramservice repair center in Bratislava performs diagnostics and display replacements for Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy A, Galaxy M and other smartphone models for which the necessary display modules are available.
Before repair, a technician checks the condition of the display, touchscreen, and casing, determines the cause of the malfunction, and agrees with the customer on the necessary repairs and their cost. Other services we provide for this brand’s smartphones are listed on the “Samsung Smartphone Repair” page.
When to Replace the Display on a Samsung Phone
After mechanical damage, the screen does not always stop working completely. Some malfunctions may appear immediately, while others become noticeable only during continued use of the smartphone.
You may need to replace the display on your Samsung if:
- the glass is broken or has deep cracks;
- the screen remains black even though the smartphone is working;
- vertical or horizontal lines have appeared;
- there are black, green, purple, or other spots on the display;
- part of the screen has stopped displaying an image;
- the display flickers;
- the touchscreen does not respond to touch or responds incorrectly;
- the image periodically disappears when you press on the case.
These symptoms do not always mean that the display module itself is faulty. A drop may also have damaged the flex cable, the display connector, the case, or components on the motherboard. Therefore, before replacing the display, you must inspect the smartphone and determine the exact cause of the malfunction.
Cracked glass or damaged display
The outer glass protects the screen from physical impact, and beneath it lies the display module, which generates the image and works in conjunction with the touchscreen. Therefore, a crack on the surface and damage to the display itself are not always the same issue.
If the glass is cracked but the image remains normal, the colors haven’t changed, and the touchscreen responds to touches across its entire surface, the nature of the necessary repair is determined after inspecting the specific model.
If, after an impact, black areas, colored stripes, spots, or flickering appear, or if the image is partially or completely lost, or the touchscreen stops working, this may indicate damage to the display module.
A technician assesses the condition of the screen and determines which repair option is possible for that specific smartphone.
Features of Samsung Galaxy Displays
Many Samsung Galaxy smartphones use AMOLED or Dynamic AMOLED displays. Depending on the series and specific model, other types of screens may also be used.
A distinctive feature of AMOLED displays is that, following mechanical damage, the outer glass may sometimes appear almost intact, while the display itself has already sustained internal damage. Black spots, green or purple streaks, or flickering may appear on the screen, or the image may disappear entirely.
This is precisely why you shouldn’t judge the condition of a Samsung display based solely on the appearance of the glass. Before replacement, you must check the image quality and the touchscreen functionality.
What Is Checked Before Replacing the Display
Before starting the repair, the technician checks whether the malfunction is specifically related to the display module. They assess the presence and quality of the image, the operation of the touchscreen, and the condition of the display cable, connector, bezel, and smartphone casing.
Special attention is paid to the effects of a fall or a strong impact. If the bezel is warped, the new display may not fit properly against the body or may be subjected to additional mechanical stress after installation.
If the Samsung won’t turn on after a fall or has other malfunctions in addition to screen damage, further diagnostics of the electronic components may be required.
What Determines the Cost of a Samsung Display Replacement
The cost of replacement depends primarily on the specific smartphone model, the type of display installed, the price of the corresponding display module, and the complexity of disassembling the device.
The final price may also be affected by the condition of the casing after the fall. If the frame is severely deformed or other parts are damaged, additional work may be required to properly install the new display.
Before the repair, a technician inspects the smartphone, confirms the availability of a display module for the specific Samsung model, and informs the customer of the replacement cost.
The diagnosis is free provided that the customer agrees to have the display replaced or to have another agreed-upon repair performed at Ramservice.
Water Resistance After Display Replacement
When disassembling many modern Samsung smartphones, the factory adhesive seal—which helps protect internal components from moisture—is compromised.
During reassembly, a new adhesive or seal is used, if the design allows for it and it is available for the specific model.
It is impossible to fully guarantee that the factory-level water resistance will be restored after a display replacement. After repair, the smartphone should not be considered a device with a guaranteed original level of water protection.
