A smartphone’s battery gradually loses capacity over time. This is natural wear and tear of a lithium-ion battery, which means that over time, your Samsung may run significantly shorter on a single charge than it used to.
The battery’s condition can also be affected by overheating, deep discharge, physical damage, and other factors. In some cases, the battery not only loses capacity but also begins to malfunction or swell.
The Ramservice service center in Bratislava performs diagnostics and battery replacement for Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy A, Galaxy M and other smartphone models for which compatible batteries are available.
Before replacement, a technician checks the battery’s condition and the charging system’s operation to determine the cause of the malfunction.
When to Replace a Samsung Battery
Decreased battery life is one of the most common signs of battery wear. However, the problem can manifest in other ways as well.
You may need to replace the battery in your Samsung smartphone if:
- the phone’s battery drains much faster than before;
- the smartphone shuts down when the charge is between 10% and 30%;
- the charge level fluctuates sharply;
- the Samsung takes a long time to charge;
- the battery loses its charge quickly even when not in active use;
- the phone shuts down under heavy use;
- The smartphone gets very hot while charging or in use;
- the back cover or display has started to peel away from the body due to battery swelling.
These symptoms don’t always mean the problem is specifically with the battery. Rapid discharge can be caused by heavy usage, apps running in the background, a weak cellular signal, system settings, or a malfunction in other components.
Charging issues can also be caused by the cable, adapter, USB-C port, power cable, or power supply components. Therefore, it is important to determine the exact cause of the problem before installing a new battery.
A Worn-Out Battery or a Charging Problem
A worn-out battery typically manifests as reduced smartphone battery life, sudden changes in the charge level, or the device shutting down even when the indicator still shows a certain amount of charge remaining. Under heavy use, a Samsung device like this may also shut down unexpectedly.
If the smartphone won’t charge at all, charging is constantly interrupted, or the cable must be held at a specific angle, the problem may lie with the USB-C port or other components of the charging system.
A technician will check how the device behaves when connected to power and determine whether a battery replacement is actually necessary. If the issue is related to the USB-C port or other components of the charging system, we at Ramservice can also perform the necessary repairs.
Samsung Battery Swelling
In some cases, a worn-out or damaged lithium-ion battery may expand in size. This is no longer just a reduction in battery life but physical damage to the battery that requires special attention.
Signs of swelling may include a raised back cover, gaps appearing between the case components, a display that has started to pull away from the frame, or noticeable deformation of the smartphone.
Do not press on the back cover or screen in an attempt to push them back into place, puncture the battery, or remove it yourself. It is also not recommended to continue actively using or charging a smartphone with a swollen battery.
Such a battery must be replaced. After removing it, the technician will also check the condition of the display, back cover, and body, as the swollen battery may have exerted mechanical pressure on them.
What Is Checked Before Replacing the Battery
Before repair, it’s important to confirm that issues with battery life or power are indeed related to the battery. The technician evaluates the Samsung’s behavior during charging, the rate of discharge, power stability, the physical condition of the battery, and any signs of swelling.
The charging port is also checked. If the smartphone won’t turn on, doesn’t respond to the charger, or has other electronic malfunctions, additional diagnostics of the power system or motherboard may be required.
The condition of the battery cannot always be reliably determined based on a single software indicator alone; therefore, the device’s behavior and the nature of the malfunction are taken into account during the diagnostic process.
What Determines the Cost of a Samsung Battery Replacement
The cost of replacement depends on the specific Samsung model, the price of the corresponding battery, the smartphone’s design, and the complexity of disassembly.
Additional work may be required if a swollen battery has already damaged the back cover, display, bezel, or other parts of the casing. In such cases, the condition of these components is assessed separately.
Before the repair, a technician inspects the smartphone, confirms the availability of a battery for the specific model, and informs the customer of the replacement cost.
The diagnosis is free provided that the customer agrees to have the battery replaced or to have another agreed-upon repair performed at Ramservice.
